Endodontics ( Root canal treatment )

Don’t let a toothache take away your smile. We have the means and services to relieve your pain and help you smile again. In this case, we’re talking about a procedure called Endodontics, also known as Root Canal Therapy. Here’s how it works:
Inside every tooth is what is known as pulp, which supplies nutrients to the tooth. When the pulp becomes diseased or injured, pulp tissue dies, resulting in sensitivity and pain. Endodontics involves the removal of dead and diseased pulp and the subsequent cleaning and sealing of the root canal. A crown is then placed over the tooth to make it stronger.
You should feel little or no discomfort with this relatively simple procedure. And the best part is, your smile can be saved in just 2 to 3 visits !

Scaling and Polishing

When do we need scaling and polishing?
Due to various food and bacteria, our teeth will eventually be stained to a yellowish tinge. Other than staining, calculus (stones) will start to develop due to food stuck between the teeth. When calculus builds up, it could lead to gum swelling and infection. Scaling will remove the calculus and the polishing will clean the teeth of stains. This will help to keep the gum and tooth to be clean and healthy thus, leading to a lesser possibility of gum disease, swelling and the gums bleeding.

One would need to do scaling and polishing on a regular basis. Dentists recommend that scaling and polishing to be done at a six-month interval. It also helps to prevent the gum from receding and diseases that are ultimately the main cause of shaky teeth. It also facilitates screening for oral disease like cavities and tooth decay.
Having regular scaling and polishing helps to maintain healthy teeth and gum. Bleeding gums while brushing is an early sign of gum disease. Visit our dentist to prevent it from getting worse. With regular professional cleaning, a positive attitude and good oral hygiene, you will have a clean mouth and will be able to smile confidently.
We use ultrasonic scalers to ensure complete oral hygiene.
What is an ultrasonic scaler?
The device we use to remove calculus from teeth is an ultrasonic scaler. It consists of a wand with a small scaling tip that produces a soft ultrasonic vibration. The small, quick vibrations in combination with a water flow give us a whole new level of effectiveness in calculus removal.

The benefits of ultrasonic scaling include:

• Increased efficiency of calculus removal
• Less need for hand scaling of stubborn deposits
• More comfortable access to the root surfaces, thanks to the small tip

Teeth Whitening

How does teeth whitening work?

Your smile matters to us, and we would like to help you take care of it. We advocate preventive dentistry, which quite simply means this: prevention is better than cure.
Your smile may be brilliant now, but without proper dental care, the good times are not likely to last. The build-up of plaque and tartar deposits around your teeth over time can cause a condition known as periodontitis. Periodontitis not only affects your teeth, but the supporting gums and bone too. To make it worse, the bacteria found in these deposits are now being linked to other medical problems such as heart disease and premature births.
We recommend a regular dental check up every 6 months to keep diseases like Periodontitis at bay. Regular cleaning and hygiene therapy is not enough. For example, sometimes leaking tooth fillings must be replaced to prevent oral bacteria from invading and starting a new decay. But problems like this are best nipped in the bud. We have preventive diagnostic tests like x- rays to detect decay and aid in the diagnosis of oral diseases if necessary.

Crowns and Bridges

When a tooth is compromised by decay or damage, we may suggest a crown. This restoration, made in a lab from fine dental porcelain, will blend seamlessly with your teeth, return the strength that you need for comfortable oral function, and maintain your all-white smile.
Typically, we can design, fit, and place your crowns in just a couple of short appointments spanning over ten days. Once a crown is placed, you can care for it as you do your natural teeth. Be sure to see us every six months for professional cleanings and a preventive exam.

Dental bridge is a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that attaches on one or both sides to teeth prepared with dental crowns. If you’ve lost teeth due to accident, injury, or gum disease, we can create a permanent bridge to restore your perfect smile. A bridge not only fills the gap, but it also prevents repositioning of remaining teeth. It can also correct a misaligned bite, improve chewing function and speech articulation, and provide internal structure for the face to give you a more youthful appearance. With proper care, a fixed bridge may last at least 8 to 10 years.

Tooth Coloured Fillings

A filling replaces part of a tooth that has been lost because of decay or accidental damage. If you are embarrassed about your smile because of decay or dark fillings in your teeth, you are a good candidate for composite resins. Composite resin is a tooth coloured filling which bonds to the teeth and protects it from further decay. We can blend and mix shades to find the perfect colour to match your natural teeth. We also offer Glass ionomer fillings, as indicated in certain situations.

Tooth Extraction

We perform tooth extractions quickly and with minimal discomfort to treat a host of dental conditions. Patients suffering from broken, cracked, and/or excessively decayed or damaged teeth or has tooth which cannot be saved by fillings or root canal can be extracted under local anaesthesia. We also perform certain wisdom teeth extractions.

If you have lost all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay, or injury, dentures can replace your missing teeth and restore your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from a denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You will not be able to eat and speak comfortably.
When many or all teeth are missing from a top or bottom jaw, we suggest the use of dentures. A full denture replaces all teeth on a top or bottom jaw, whereas a partial replaces many missing teeth by fitting like a puzzle piece. Modern dentures look like natural teeth and are more comfortable than their predecessors. The porcelain false teeth in a denture are attached to a gum-coloured base. This base can be held in place by denture adhesive, clasps that attach to existing teeth, or dental implants.

Night Guard

Night guards are used to treat bruxism (teeth grinding) and clenching. Symptoms associated with grinding include headache, stress, anxiety, ear aches, and jaw joint pain. Many individuals are unaware that they grind or clench their teeth at night, but a lot of damage can occur without any symptoms.
Thin, transparent, and horseshoe-shaped, dental night guards are created from hard but mouldable plastics. The night guard fits over either the upper or the lower teeth, creating a cushion between them and absorbing the impact of the grinding or clenching. Night guards can help reduce enamel damage, jaw joint inflammation, and irritation to the gums. Overall, most night guard wearers report they have less pain and sleep better.

In order to be truly effective, night guards need to be custom-made for each individual. It typically takes two dentist appointments to receive a night guard. During the initial visit, the dentist takes a bite record and makes an impression of the patient’s teeth. These will be used to create a customized night guard that allows for proper teeth alignment. During the second appointment, the patient gives the night guard a test run and the dentist makes any necessary adjustments.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride, a natural mineral is found in many foods and also in water. Fluoride is lost through demineralization where the tooth’s enamel layer is attacked by acids in the food and drinks that we consume. These acids are formed from plaque bacteria and sugars. From the food and drinks consumed, minerals are also replenished in the form of fluoride, calcium and phosphate in a process called remineralization.

What are the benefits of fluoride?

Fluoride helps to prevent the tooth from decaying by making the tooth more resistant to acid attack from plaque and sugars. For children under the age of six, fluoride is important for the development of permanent teeth. Fluoride helps to speed up remineralization process and also prevents acid from attacking the teeth.

Where is fluoride found?

Fluoride can be found in food and water. It can also be directly applied through the use of fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash. Over-the-counter mouthwash contains lower amounts of fluoride. For stronger concentrations, you would require a dentist’s prescription.

A dentist can also apply fluoride directly to the teeth in the form of a gel, foam or varnish. This method allows for a much higher amount of fluoride to be applied to your teeth than toothpastes and mouthwashes. Fluoride supplements are available in liquid or tablet forms and must be prescribed by the dentist, family doctor.
